Reminds me of the view of LA from Mullholland Dr.

Not in the details but in the expanse of the city going on for miles and miles and miles and... err... oh...
Got lost in an old 60's flashback there.

Nice work.

Did you try CGtexture.com or Texturepilot?
On my render I used normal textures, added glow material on windows and light poles that illuminates the scene and set a night lighting setup.

hi guys and sorry to hijack this thread but i'm actually doing some research in creating a night city myself for a client project. First off i do have to say that ghosttown looks pretty impressive (just testing it for 1 day now)....

I do have 1 or 2 questions though:

How is it possible to get more random materials automatically on the buildings (for the moment i'm trying to put them on there manually and it doesn't work very well) !??

and second: this scipt that creates lights on the streetlights: where the hell do i need to run this thingee.... ;) i'm just not getting it....

thanks for any help ;)

Guys can please someone give some more details? I'm a newb and started building cities for my favorite free and best ever F-16 simulator.
Not a whole tutorial but the steps in text, I believe I will find the way next. I use GhostTown lite (obvious) and I want to create the same effects I see in earlier pics... I get the pole lights ok no problem with those. What I want is the random windows lights at night on the buildings.
Also if a light hit's on the building at night I will have to declare something on the object so to reflect light?

I forgot: thanx for the new version Kilad... I wish I could buy it...

Yes, if you want to do something like 1k0 has done, you should use mental ray.
Then you can use textures to light up your windows instead of using lights.

What is your goal? Rendering an image in max? Or exporting to an engine?
Anyway, first you can look at some basic tutorials for rendering with mental ray.
